Hurricane Isaias Insurance Claim Phone Numbers for Alabama, Mississippi and Florida

By Michael Wojciak, founder, Agile RV Housing

Updated October 7, 2026: every number below was checked against the insurance company's own website today. Citizens Property Insurance and the Alabama Insurance Underwriting Association stopped writing new policies on October 7 because of Isaias. Existing policyholders can still file claims.

Find your insurance company below, then call its claims line or file online. Your claim number and the company's claims line are also printed on your declarations page and in your insurer's app. If your company is not listed, call the number on your declarations page.

Some insurance companies print a number on their website that does not match the number their tap-to-call button dials. We list the full number as the company prints it, so check the digits before you call.

What should I do after I file a hurricane claim?

After you file a hurricane claim, write down your claim number and your adjuster's name, and keep both with you. Take photos and video of every damaged room and the outside of the house before you clean up. Make the repairs needed to stop further damage, such as covering a roof opening, and keep every receipt. Your homeowners policy expects you to protect the property from more damage.

If the home is not safe to live in, tell the insurance company when you file. Ask how your policy's Loss of Use coverage works and who handles temporary housing on your claim: your adjuster or a temporary housing agency. Keep receipts for hotels, meals above your normal cost, and any other added living expenses.

Does homeowners insurance pay for a place to stay if Isaias makes my home unlivable?

Homeowners insurance usually pays for temporary housing through Loss of Use (Coverage D, also called Additional Living Expense) when a covered loss makes the home unlivable. Your adjuster approves the housing, and your declarations page sets the dollar limit.

Where your wind coverage comes from matters on the Gulf Coast:

    • Florida Citizens: Citizens' HO-3 and wind-only HW-2 policies include Loss of Use (Citizens).
    • Mississippi MWUA: MWUA covers additional living expenses when the property is unlivable because of a covered loss (MWUA FAQ).
    • Alabama AIUA: AIUA's published rules list "time element" coverages, the category that includes living expenses, among those it does not provide. Ask your agent whether your homeowners policy covers living expenses for wind damage (AIUA).
    • Flood policies: a standard flood policy does not cover temporary housing or additional living expenses (FloodSmart).

Our ALE coverage guide explains how Loss of Use is calculated and paid, and our insurance carrier guides cover what each major insurer's policy says.

Can I live in an RV on my own lot while my home is repaired?

Often, yes. In Florida, Governor DeSantis declared a state of emergency on October 6, 2026 (Executive Order 26-202) for 25 counties, including Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton and Bay. After a declaration like that, Florida law says a county or city may not prohibit one RV on the lot of a home made uninhabitable, for up to 36 months or until the home gets its certificate of occupancy (Fla. Stat. 125.023 and 166.0335). You must be making a good-faith effort to rebuild, the RV must be connected to water and electric, and you must live in it.

In Alabama and Mississippi, the rules are set by each county and city. Our Hurricane Isaias RV rules by county page covers each one, and our free zoning check confirms the rules for your exact address within one business day.

Temporary housing on your own lot

Agile RV Housing places a fully set up RV on your own lot while your home is repaired after storm damage. It is for homeowners with homeowners insurance. Loss of Use often pays for it once your adjuster approves it, and we work with your adjuster. You choose who provides your temporary housing. Your insurer or its housing agency may suggest a provider, and the choice stays yours.

The price is $120 to $140 a night, tax included, and our rate has not changed for the storm. Delivery and setup are priced separately for each property. Delivery is about four days from approval to move-in. We serve Alabama, Mississippi, the Florida Panhandle and all 48 contiguous states.

    Frequently asked questions

Where do I find my insurance company's claims number?

Your insurance company's claims number is printed on your declarations page, on your insurance card or app, and on the company's website. This page lists the claims numbers for the major homeowners insurers in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida, checked against each company's own website on October 7, 2026.

Should I file my hurricane claim online or by phone?

Either works. After a large hurricane, insurance company phone lines get busy, and online claim forms and apps are usually open 24 hours. File the claim as soon as it is safe, then write down your claim number.

Does flood insurance pay for a hotel or temporary housing?

No. A standard flood insurance policy does not cover temporary housing or additional living expenses, according to FEMA's FloodSmart site. Homeowners insurance Loss of Use usually pays for housing when wind or another covered loss makes the home unlivable.

How long do I have to file a hurricane claim in Florida?

In Florida, notice of a hurricane claim must be given within one year of landfall under Fla. Stat. 627.70132. File as soon as it is safe, because photos and early notice make the claim easier.

Who do I call if my insurance company is not answering?

Call your state insurance department: the Florida Department of Financial Services at 1-877-693-5236, the Alabama Department of Insurance at 1-800-433-3966, or the Mississippi Insurance Department at 601-359-3569.

Can my homeowners insurance pay for an RV on my property?

Often, yes. Loss of Use can pay for an RV on your own lot when the home is unlivable after a covered loss, once your adjuster approves it. Our guide to how homeowners insurance pays for an RV on your property covers the steps.
